How To Reclaim Your Energy

Hustle culture, Sunday scaries, endless to-do lists, it can easily seem like the odds are always stacked against you, and then you’re drained. It can become a vicious cycle, which is why I recommend learning how to reclaim your energy in a world that feels all too focused on moving at an accelerated pace.

Exhaustion is normal, and OK. Your recovery is what matters. We are more prone to stress and burnout thanks to the strangest couple of years in modern history. But what’s important, is to be completely involved in your recovery, and finally reclaiming your energy.

Discover

When I feel completely burned out, I take inventory of my entire day, from work to how I’m spending my personal time. Watching where your energy is going throughout the day will be helpful so long as you do the work to observe and reallocate your energy.

What do you need to add to your routine, and what can you let go of? This is also a good time to learn how and when to say “no.” Time for yourself is essential to replenish your energy. Reflect on your mood recently, and what kinds of things are having negative effects on you.

Cleanse

Time to cut all of those energy suckers out of your life. Commit to taking time to yourself doing only things that bring you joy and help let loose. Take a walk, do some yoga, get connected to your body and your interests. Make walks with your dog last a little longer, or turn to a new hobby. I personally like to get lost in a pile of magazines. Sometimes I’ll feel so inspired I’ll make mood boards.

Focusing on your wellness is great for your mental health, and can quickly help recover from burnout. There are vast ways to go about it, but you ultimately have to find a routine that works best for you. It’s important to start small. Taking manageable steps to a wellness routine makes the experience much less intimidating.

Restore

Don’t return to a cycle of burnout. Now that you’ve reflected, you know what to change, and it’s definitely time to set some new boundaries. It may take a lot of trial and error, but trying to manage your energy isn’t a one-fits-all strategy. Define what work-life balance feels like for you, and what is important and sustainable for your energy flow.
