This week, I packed my hospital bag in anticipation of our baby boy’s arrival and it felt surreal. Honestly, I had to rack my brain to remember what we used last time and what was unnecessary. That’s one of the dilemmas of having kids more than 5 years apart. We spent three nights in the hospital for my first son, and while I have no idea what to expect this time around, I’m packing in anticipation of a duration around the same time.
It’s a little different this time around given the COVID restrictions still in place at the hospital, but I’m still packing pretty much the same essentials I had the first time around, with a few cozy additions.
Storq Maternity and Nursing Lounge Set
This cozy set is the perfect prepartum and postpartum loungewear for those first days in the hospital. I went with the beautiful “Rosewood” color, and I love how put together it looks while still being the epitome of comfort for new moms.
My feet were so swollen after my first birth and my Birks were a lifesaver. They made it easy to slip on and off whenever I needed to move around the hospital and were the perfect shoes for comfortably heading home.
I love these ribbed sleep shorts so much I bought one in every color. They are so stretchy and comfortable, I’m sure I’ll be wearing them long after my postpartum days.
One of the best things I brought to the hospital last time was a stash of extra cozy pillows. I was so glad I did. This time, I’m definitely bringing my beloved customized pillow for labor, delivery and beyond.
I’m already a busty gal even before breastfeeding, so finding nursing bras that are comfortable and fit well is tricky. This clip-down bra is perfect for nursing and is stretchy enough to be comfortably worn all day yet secure enough to provide support.
In my experience, hospital wall outlets were far away from my hospital bed, so when my phone died, I was out of luck. This time, I’m bringing a portable power bank so I can get extra juice from the comfort of my bed and take all the pictures of my newborn my heart desires.
My sweet friend embroidered this same organic waffle blanket for me for my baby boy, so I’ll definitely be bringing it to the hospital to swaddle him in and snap some photos. But no, his name isn’t Ray. Our name is still a secret for now. 🙂
I am so glad there is a travel size available of my favorite dry shampoo. I don’t really want to bring regular shampoo and conditioner, and hopefully this dry shampoo will tide me over until we go home.
This set has everything I need for my daytime skincare essentials while in the hospital. It is the perfect kit for helping me stay on top of my skincare routine while not weighing down my hospital bag with a plethora of products.
Klorane Make-up Remover Biodegradable Wipes with Cornflower
I’m not usually big on makeup wipes, but I love that these are biodegradable and are easy to chuck in my overnight bag.
My face feels gross if I don’t use toning pads each night, and these come in a convenient travel size that I’ll be bringing with me.
I can’t bear to be without this stuff. I love that it has a subtle tint and smells softy of roses. I had it with me during my first birth and I definitely will be bringing it again.
I have a bit of a melonhead, and those cute stretchy headbands always slip and slide off my head. I love this Velcro spa headband from Kitsch for keeping my bangs comfortably out of my face during labor.
These super skinny headbands are my go-to during the day when I don’t want to bother with washing and styling my bangs.
Cozy Cloud Slipper Liner Socks
Honestly, I hate wearing socks and never do when I’m at home, but I feel like I have to when in the hospital. I know the floors are clean but it’s still a hygiene thing, you know? These are light, soft and grippy so I can safely walk around my hospital room in them.
Girlfriend Maternity Bike Shorts
I’ve been living in these bike shorts for the last few months of my pregnancy, especially as it heats up in San Diego. I’ll definitely be packing a pair or two to wear home.
KORRES Wild Rose Night-Brightening Sleeping Facial
If my skin ever needed an overnight pick-me-up, it’s after giving birth. I love how this sleeping facial makes me look glowy and refreshed no matter how little sleep I got the night before. Fake it ’til you make it, right?
And of course, the bag itself! I love this vegan leather travel bag. It makes the perfect hospital bag. It’s sold out, but you can find a similar one here.
