How To Be More Creative At Home In 2021

I’ve worked from home for more than 10 years, and I love it. For me, unstructured time spent at home alone is ideal. I don’t mind when my work and daily routine are a blur. Although, I’ve had to adapt and create some routine since having kids, but ultimately, I still love working without much structure. However, since the pandemic, unstructured time is hard to come by. I’ve also become a full-time mom, teacher and housekeeper — every moment is an opportunity to get something done. There is little to no time for leisurely activities. In 2021, I’m hoping to change that. I miss feeling creative. I need to carve out time to be inspired. But since most of that time is spent inside my house, I need to make my home a place that inspires creativity.

more creative at home

Here’s how I will be more creative at home this year:

Reading Nooks

I love to be surrounded by books: the more books, the better. Reading is not only relaxing for me, but it’s also crucial to my work. It opens my mind to new ideas and experiences. I love to make cozy reading areas around my house that entice me to take a break and open a book. These include a stack of books, lighting and a snuggly blanket.

Dedicated Workspace

It’s tough to work when you’re working from bed. Even if your home is tiny, carve out space that is meant only for you to do work (if you can, make a space only for creative work). I set up a space in our dining area to work while my kids are doing Zoom school, but when I need to do more concentrated, creative work, I have to be at my desk. Think about how you work best, too. Do you like a space that’s dark and moody, or do you like it bright and airy? These will help you find a space in your home that will lend itself to your best work.

Talking Out Of Turn Desk Sets

Keeping a dedicated workspace organized is essential for thriving creatively at home. These cute desk sets are minimal enough to streamline my desk and come in a variety of fun colors to keep creativity at the tip of my fingers.

Take a Walk

Sometimes the best way to be creative while working at home is to leave your home. This is especially true right now when we’re all sick and tired of being in our homes. Every day, schedule time to take a walk. It can feel like a real nuisance, but you won’t regret it. Even 10 minutes can be enough to give you the rest you need to be more productive and clear-minded for the rest of the day.

Listen to Music

Music is a huge part of my day. It’s kept me sane during quarantine. I listen to music when I need to tune out all the noise inside my house and concentrate or feel overstimulated. I also use it for inspiration when writing or working on a project. I like to make specific playlists for the moods I’m in or the type of work I’m doing.
