Samantha’s Intimate Secret Garden-Inspired Baby Sprinkle

When my friend Taryn asked me, “So, how would you feel about a baby sprinkle?” the first words out of my mouth were, “Oh God, no I’m not doing that.” It was an automatic response that made both of us laugh, especially when she told me that she had already starting planning it with one of my other dear friends. I guess I just had this preconceived notion that baby sprinkles were “tacky” because if you’ve already had a baby shower with your first, you shouldn’t force friends and family to do it again, right? But Taryn quickly eased my concerns with promises of a super small guest list, no cheesy games, and a stockpile of diapers instead of gifts.

But I’m going to let Taryn take it from here. Did I mention that all of my dear friends involved in planning the sprinkle are highly coveted creatives in the wedding and event industry? So to say my sprinkle was beautiful is an understatement. I’ve never had a party like this thrown in my honor before. And after the past year of not seeing/hugging my dearest friends, the day was lovelier than I could ever have dreamed.

“I started with a mood board – I was inspired by you and your favorite colors, and flowers, which are your favorite thing. Want to know what’s funny? I picked the main color palette based on a display of sweaters I saw at Target! I saw this and went “SAM” and took a picture.”

I interpreted these to paper colors – then built the mood board from there.

Did I happen to mention Taryn is an incredible stationer? She made this beautiful invitation suite along with the most perfect custom acrylic place cards. It’s truly like she could see inside my brain.

“I had so much fun creating your invite! It’s always fun to create something where no one is asking for revisions and it’s for someone you love.”

“The sprinkle was catered by local San Diego favorite, MIHO. I asked to do an all-vegetarian menu for the guest of honor, and trusted them with their favorites.”

The Menu:

  • Antipasto
  • Avocado Toast
  • Veggie Empanadas
  • Grilled Portobello
  • Pesto & Veggies
  • Roasted Cauliflower
  • Creamy Mashed Potatoes
  • Green Goddess Salad

To Be Designed really made everything shine! They created a concept based off my invite and mood board – I gave them freedom to do anything they wanted and love what they did. My favorites were the velvet chairs and the multicolor candles.”

My dear friend Esther of Wallflower Inspiration provided all the florals. They were my dream colors and there’s nothing I love more than a Juliette rose! I asked Esther a bit about her process and here’s what she said:

“I know this might sound odd but a lot of my creative process happens right before I fall asleep when my eyes are closed and I’m in complete darkness. That’s when my mind is calm and still and I can start visualizing the space and time (or season) in which these floral arrangements or installations will be in. When I start creating something with florals, I first like to be inspired by the person who might be receiving these flowers. Oftentimes, I know something about the person but in the moments that I don’t, I then allow myself to be inspired by the season that we are in or the space that these flowers might dwell in. I then create a color palette that embodies the person or space it will go to. From there, I like to pick florals that can carry out my vision while still staying true to my aesthetic.”

Lastly, my friend Merrill not only photographed the whole shindig, but she also made all the desserts!

You guys, this is just something she picked up as a hobby during quarantine. She’s amazing! I am so blown away by her natural talent for not only baking delicious treats, but for creating edible art.

I told her the dessert table gave me “Alice in Wonderland meets Secret Garden” vibes, which it turns out is exactly what she was going for. I’d say mission accomplished!

I’m so grateful to my immensely talented friends for all of the hard work and love they put into this little sprinkle. It was the most perfect, intimate day with my favorite people and I’ll never forget how truly special it was!
