6 Beauty Habits You Should Be Incorporating Into Your Daily Routine

It’s easy to get stuck in a beauty rut. Your routine can become second nature after you’ve been doing it for a long time. But our skin is a living organ and it changes and shifts just like everything else. If you’re not doing these six beauty habits daily, you’re not getting the most out of your routine. It’s always better to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our skin, hair and nails. These habits will make sure you’re thriving from the inside out.

Scalp massage

We already know that a scalp massage is the best part of getting your hair done. It instantly relaxes you and helps increase the production of serotonin. But did you know a daily scalp massage is highly beneficial to creating a good environment for healthy hair? The health of the scalp is vital to the health of the hair. Scalp massages aid in the removal of dead skin cells from the scalp and can also be very beneficial to those who suffer from scalp conditions such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.

Take care of your neck and hands

Did you know that the skin on your neck is as vulnerable as the skin on your eyelids? In fact, the neck is often the place that ages first. This is especially true for people that sleep horizontally, or on high pillows. Consider your neck to be part of your face, and make sure that you moisturize it in just the same way, too. And don’t forget your hands. We’ve all seen what happens to the tops of hands as we age. While you can’t prevent it, you can reduce the amount of lines, discoloration and loose skin by preemptively using a hydrating hand cream every day.

Feed your nails

Nail health is super important to avoid flaky, weak nails. That means massaging vitamin E oil into your cuticles and nails before you sleep, and using a base coat under a manicure. A swipe of cuticle oil can make your hands look freshly manicured even when you haven’t had a chance to make it to the nail salon.

Increase your hyaluronic acid intake

Hyaluronic acid already lives in your skin and connective tissues throughout your body to keep everything nice and lubricated. So why increase your intake? As we age, our skin loses its natural ability to retain moisture, so adding hyaluronic acid serums to your routine is a great way to make sure you get all that hydration into your skin.

Facial rolling/gua sha

If you aren’t using a facial roller or gua sha stone every day, what are you even doing with your life? Using a face roller can stimulate blood flow to the face, which can make your skin look brighter and feel firmer. Rolling may also decrease puffiness (like the dreaded under-eye bags) by stimulating lymphatic drainage. For even better depuffing, try storing your roller in the refrigerator or use a naturally cold stone like jade, as it’ll cool the skin on contact. This can quickly de-puff your skin and tighten pores. Facial rollers often help you get more bang for your buck with your skincare products. Rollers should be used with an oil or moisturizer to help the tool glide across your skin. This process can deliver product deeper into your skin, maximizing the benefits.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen

Anyone who tells you that you don’t need sunscreen on a cloudy day isn’t your friend. The clouds aren’t going to stop the UV rays from reaching the Earth’s surface. Whether it’s a sunny day or a cloudy one, it is always crucial to put on enough sunscreen before stepping out. Don’t wait until the wrinkles and dark spots surface on your skin. It’s better to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to sun damage.
