New Year, New Complexion: Add These Five Techniques Into Your Skincare Routine

There’s no time to start healthy new habits quite like the new year! After all, this season can be invigorating—a time when you think anything is possible and you have some momentum and inspiration to really go for it. So as you focus on big goals like maybe finishing a new job, learning a new language or discovering a new hobby, there is something you can do to face this fresh new perspective with a little extra pizzazz—get a fresh new face!

And by a new face, we mean, give a boost to the beautiful, amazing one you already have!

Our contributor, Jenna Wohlwend, is here with some fantastic at-home, easy-to-integrate, won’t-break-the-budget skincare additions you can add to your regimen that will really help you tap into a routine that you’ll easily adopt. And even if you fall off the wagon on some of your resolutions (hey, you’re only human!), at least with a healthy complexion, you’ll still feel like your best self.

Take Fish Oil and/or Collagen

Disclaimer first, obviously check with your doctor before you try this because I am no M.D., but overall, I credit these two things to keeping my skin young and glowing, and for the lack of a better word, supple (yeah—cringe—it sounds like it’s from a cheesy romance novel!).

These two additions to my morning routine and vitamin menu show immediate, and positive, effects. And for collagen, you can even add that to your tea or coffee!

SPF, Every Day, No Matter What

That’s right! Even if it is cloudy, the sun is still strong. Just wear it. Wash your face when you get up in the morning and put it on before your makeup. And better yet, choose makeup that has SPF in it! There is nothing that will age your skin like a sunburn over time. Also, it’s just a healthier choice.

Microneedle

This tactic is somewhat controversial but this wakes up my skin. You can purchase one on Amazon here, and the little prickles that redden your skin activate healing, increasing collagen. It’s great for scars and evening your complexion. Use wisely and figure out what is right for you. But doing this every so often really helps.

Serums

I still love me a good moisturizer for obvious reasons, but nothing feels quite like a serum. I used to avoid them because I thought they were oily, but nope! They are amazing! They keep my skin moisturized and they really get in those pores. Plus, there are so many different kinds and extracts. I personally love rosehip oil, pumpkin seed oil, and of course, the queen bee of them all, hyaluronic acid with vitamin C.

It will transform the texture of your skin straight away. And don’t go a single night without it. Commit! (My trick is to leave it next to my nightstand, so as I tuck myself into bed and get comfortable, I never forget to douse my skin.)

Jade Roller

I am obsessed with dry brushing and jade rolling. It’s all about cleaning out those lymph nodes. It not only feels great and is good for your skin, but it really does feel energizing. For your face, jade rollers are very affordable and they can help drain toxins in your face. It also feels like a massage and those muscles need some love, too. It can help if you have headaches, or clench your jaw, as well.

These five things will really ramp you up to start loving your skincare routine so whatever it is you choose to do in the next year, you can feel confident doing it. There is nothing quite like really feeling good in your own skin. Plus, you deserve a little TLC.

In addition, all of these things are a double win, they not only feel good but they are good for you. It’s a perk on top of a perk! So, start out 2020 right and add these tricks into your mix!
