A Fool-Proof Fall Skincare Routine

We all know the havoc that summer can wreak on your skin. You’ve started to recover from the sun and chlorine, but now it’s time to maintain your skin’s health. I don’t know about you, but I always like when skincare routines are laid out in an easy-to-follow manner. So I’m here to help you take the guesswork out of your fall skincare routine.

Cleanser

In the fall and winter months, I always like to switch to a cleansing balm. It is richer and thicker than a traditional cleanser, and the act of washing it off with a warm washcloth is almost therapeutic.

Toner

A lot of toners on the market can strip skin of beautifying oils instead of restoring the pH balance in the skin. Opt for a toner that contains hyaluronic acid to help hydrate your skin and keep you glowing all day long.

Serum

Cooler temps can often lead to dry, sensitive and irritated skin. Depending on your skin concerns, you might want to play around with a variety of serums. But if you’re not sure where to start, a serum full of vitamin C will help restore your skin and cell regrowth after those harsh sunny days.

Moisturizer

A lot of the time, we tend to swap out our moisturizers in the summer for something lighter, but now’s the time to switch to something a little more protective. If your skin doesn’t do well with heavier moisturizers during the day, definitely invest in a heavy-duty night cream to help your skin soak up all the hydration it can get.

Facial Oil

You’d be surprised how many people skip facial oil or use it in the wrong place in their routine. Facial oil should be the second to last step in your skincare routine each morning. Facial oil is actually denser than moisturizer, and works as an almost sealant for all of your layered products. Anything applied post-oil won’t penetrate the skin as well, so make sure to apply the products in the right order for maximum results.

Sunscreen

Yes, summer is over. YES, you still have to wear sunscreen. Even if you aren’t leaving the house, put sunscreen on your face! It’s not just direct sunlight that damages our skin. Sunscreen should be the final step in your routine no matter the season.

Weekly extras

OK, so we’ve tackled what you should be doing each day for your fall skincare routine, but let’s talk bonus treatments. Your skin deserves some TLC, especially as temps start to drop.

Exfoliators

Regular exfoliation is the key to happy skin. Add a gentle exfoliator or gommage to your routine about 2-3 times per week. Don’t overdo it! But by scrubbing away those dead skin cells, you allow your skin to regenerate new cells and absorb products better for maximum beauty results.

Face Masks

Hydrating masks should be your weekly bff. I personally enjoy a good Sunday skincare routine where I indulge in different treatments. No matter which style mask you enjoy, as long as it is packed with lots of good, hydrating ingredients, you should be set.
