I’ve always liked to describe myself as “minimalist, but also a little bit extra,” because while I hate clutter and stuff for stuff’s sake, I am also not on the #beigelife train. I’ve always liked to find little ways to include some fun and luxury into my life without overwhelming my space. It’s all about those little upgrades that bring a flash of delight to your day. If you’re like me and you’re extra, but conscious about it, you’ll need this list. It’s all about the little things in life.
A dreamy hand cream
This is a luxury bedtime routine must-have. My favorite is this lovely hand cream from French brand Sézane. It won’t break the bank, but you still get that luxurious hydration and famous Sézane scent that instantly elevates your experience.
Silk pajamas
Now, you don’t have to go all Hugh Hefner here, but silk pajamas are one of life’s simple pleasures. This set is washable and durable enough for everyday wear. And unlike most silk, you don’t need to make a trip to the dry cleaners each week. Go ahead, sleep on a silky cloud, you deserve it.
We all use tote bags whether it’s for groceries, carrying books and laptops or just for using as a daily purse, but most of those are boring. Upgrade to this incredibly fun glitter bomb confetti tote and even mundane errands suddenly become a party. It’s the epitome of minimalist but also a little bit extra.
A flower subscription
I have a flower delivery subscription from a local florist, and it’s one of the best parts of my week. Flowers are the ultimate way to bring joy into your home. Try walking past a vase filled with cheerful blooms and not smile, I dare you. Having fresh flowers in your home is so good for your overall wellbeing—it’s truly a form of self-care. However, we often forget to pick them up in our mad dash trips to the grocery store. A flower delivery subscription will bring a flash of delight to your week for sure.
A hand fan
This is actually a tip I picked up from some of my favorite drag queens. Whether you keep it next to you as you lounge by the pool or use it to help move your skincare routine along, a pretty handheld fan is an instant mood-booster.
Luxury pens + stationery
Daydreams Weekly Planner + Fine Point Rollerball Pen
My addiction to fancy pens and paper might be one of my bougiest habits, but it’s seriously such a simple pleasure. Get yourself a pen that feels good to write with. It’s super sharp and cushy beneath your fingers. Are you feeling extra yet? The first thing I do each morning as I drink my water is make a to-do list for the day. My favorite paper products right now are from Wilde House Paper Co, it’s super high quality and just looks beautiful on my desk.
A picture frame TV
This is eternally on my wish list. Most people have a television in their home, but it’s usually an eyesore. This beautiful television serves as a piece of art when not in use. It comes in a variety of sizes and frame colors to match any décor.
A quality chef’s knife
Dull knives are the worst, especially when you enjoy spending time in the kitchen. You guys, I can’t stress enough what a game changer a quality chef’s knife is. They can get pricey, but it’s one of those purchases that will last a lifetime and will get so much use.
A barista-worthy espresso machine
Nespresso Gran Lattissima by De’Longhi
You’ll never need to make a Starbucks trip again once you have the espresso maker of your dreams. This one also looks super pretty on your counter, which we all know is crucial when you’re just a little bit extra.
Full-body beauty roller
Just using a jade roller on your face is so 2018. If you’re a little bit extra, it’s time to go bigger and bust out the full-body beauty roller. This beauty is made with Xiuyan jade that’s traditionally believed to promote regeneration, detoxification and tension relief.
Velvet hangers
Blush Premium Non-Slip Velvet Hangers
Be honest, if you look in your closet right now is it a hodge-podge of hangers from various big-box stores? It’s time to upgrade to some big-girl hangers. These pretty velvet hangers are slim and help make the most of your closet space while also creating a uniform look that any minimalist would love.
A luxury robe
I’m still on the hunt for my perfect floor-length, feather-trimmed robe a la Jean Harlow, but investing in a quality robe is another one of those things that can instantly shift your mindset. Rather than slumping around in old sweatpants, a dreamy robe is a super soft and comfortable way to lounge or get ready for your day.
A quality water bottle
Plastic water bottles are officially canceled, so grab yourself a high-quality reusable water bottle like these beautiful stainless steel + bamboo travelers from Welly. If you’re feeling extra extra, grab one in each color.
