How To Achieve A Plastic-Free Beauty Routine

As you’ve probably realized by now, sustainability is something we really value here at Glitter Guide. We strive for plastic-free homes and lifestyles. Undoubtedly, one of the hardest areas to achieve that is in our beauty routines. When you really start to look for it, you realize that plastic is everywhere. But we’re here to offer some guidance on the easiest ways to start and how you can say goodbye to plastic forever.

Switch to bars

Instead of crowding your shower caddy with plastic bottles, consider switching to bars. You can get a bar for pretty much any type of soap or facial wash these days, as well as shampoo and conditioner.

Ditch plastic razors

While a disposable razor is convenient, it’s just another thing to add to the landfill. You can find some really beautiful and effective stainless steel razors that will save you from adding even more plastic into your beauty routine. As the wife of a barber, I promise you these are no more scary or difficult to use than plastic ones.

Swap out your oral care

Did you know floss is made of plastic? Silk floss is an easy alternative to this! Of course, if you’re vegan or looking for cruelty-free, bamboo floss is also a great replacement for plastic floss. As for your toothbrush, try finding a bamboo brush or one that is biodegradable.

Consider biodegradable materials in general

If you’re making the switch, we know it’s hard to find glass or other plastic-free alternatives for all your favorite products. If you can, look for products that come in biodegradable packaging that will be gentler on the earth as you toss them out.

Opt for glass or refillable packaging

Glass packaging is prettier, and will also help save the dolphins. Even better, some beauty brands offer refillable packaging so you don’t have to watch your heart break a little each time you have to throw another container in the trash.
