I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity when it comes to friendships. Having important friendships has been scientifically proven to improve your quality of life. Friendships increase your sense of belonging and purpose. They can help boost your happiness, improve your self-worth and help guide you through life’s hardships. It’s important to find the people who can be there for you in all different aspects of your life. If you really want to be your best self and live life to the fullest, you’ll want to have these types of people in your corner.
The Cheerleader
Your biggest fan, always there to cheer you on. Having this person in your life brings positivity and encouragement. They believe in you and inspire you to shoot for the stars.
The Confidant
Everyone needs someone that they feel completely safe confiding in. This person is trustworthy, but also never judgemental. They love you and are there for you through the good, the bad and the ugly. You know whatever you tell them is safe between the two of you.
The Mentor
Having a mentor is incredibly beneficial for your personal growth. They can help guide you through uncertainties in your career, give you advice on what next steps to take and help you avoid mistakes based on their own experience. Your mentor usually has the same career or creative interests as you, but with a bit more experience so you can utilize their expertise.
The Up-For-Anything One
We all need that friend who is down for a random adventure. Whether it be a sidekick for a networking event you’re nervous about or a partner for that cooking class you want to take, these extroverted friends are wonderful additions to your life. They’re also great for helping you get outside your comfort zone and gently nudging you in a new direction when the routine gets old.
The Comedian
Laughter is good for the soul. Having a friend that makes you laugh deep down in your belly is a true gift. Find a friend that brings pure joy to your life and the time you spend together. They’re always the ones to call when you’re feeling down and need a pick-me-up.
The Challenger
It doesn’t do you any good to surround yourself with “yes men.” This friend helps push you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. They ask the hard questions and force you to really challenge yourself. They help you navigate your career, relationships, and family life by pushing you to be the best you can be. Take their brutal honesty as a gift.
The Comfortable One
Everyone needs a friend they can call to just come over and hang out on the couch while you watch marathons of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Being with them is easy. You don’t worry about them seeing how messy your house is, or seeing you with no makeup on. It doesn’t matter how much time passes, you can easily pick up where you left off.
