Team Glitter Guide Got Stranded On A Desert Island: Movie Edition

Summer is “over,” and yet we’re still over here on our desert island. This month, Team Glitter Guide is sharing our top 5 desert island movies. If you could only watch 5 movies for the rest of your life, what would they be? Keep reading for our picks!

Taylor’s Picks:

Almost Famous

Evalyn and I share this movie as a top pick. Every time I watch it, I get the good vibes and I want to listen to all my ’70s records. I have a Penny Lane jacket for when I want to be like her.

Amelie

This is one of my favorite films ever. I remember leaving the theater in awe. The colors, the music, the cinematography, it’s all magical!

American Beauty

That movie was just so beautiful. Who else can’t forget the plastic bag scene?!

The Princess Bride

I love a good fairy tale. This one was funny and beautiful. I used to pretend I was the princess calling for Westley.

Spaceballs

Not one you think would make my list, right? I couldn’t really pick a top 5, so I am just picking a bunch of movies I love, cause there are tons! This one always makes me happy! It’s so freaking funny.

Sam’s Picks:

Moonrise Kingdom

This will forever be one of my favs. The first time I saw it in the theaters, I just sat there dumbfounded at how beautiful it was.

Clueless

This is my favorite movie. Yes, it’s no “Schindler’s List,” but it’s funny and smart and I’ll never get tired of it.

Rocky

Contrary to what people think, I didn’t name my kid Rocky after the movie. In fact, I didn’t even see it until I was already very, very pregnant. Then I binge-watched every single one and haven’t stopped since.

The Big Lebowski

Another movie I came to love later in life, but it never gets old. So, so funny and so well done.

Pretty Woman

The best romantic comedy ever created. Don’t fight me on this.

Evalyn’s Picks:

Almost Famous

I think my favorite movie genre is teen drama, so this plus all the cool ’70s outfit inspo is the perfect combo.

Stand By Me

A classic coming of age movie, my dad always watched this with us, so it brings me the ultimate nostalgia!

Princess Diaries

Is there anything I love more than a makeover scene in a movie? The answer is “no.” Also, I def at one point had a Rooney band tee.

Edward Scissorhands

Aside from loving the quirky weird relationship in the film, the set design is so aesthetically cool and retro.

The Place Beyond the Pines

The cinematography is so beautiful and it poignantly depicts a father/son relationship with an amazing performance by Ryan Gosling.

Wendy’s Picks:

Spirited Away

This is my all-time favorite movie. I’ve watched it tons of times since I was a kid, and still, watch it as an adult. It’s beautiful and thought-provoking.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

I’ve seen this a million times; I know what to expect every minute and I still laugh. I’m a rom-com lover, and it started with this movie.

The Godfather

I love slow movies, and this is a classic that I watch whenever I come across it on TV. I wouldn’t mind watching it at least a million more times.

Goodfellas

Yeah, I have a thing for mob-themed movies. So sue me.

Becoming Jane

I love Jane Austen, so, of course, I love an ode to her. Plus, Anne Hathaway is everything. It’s a perfect drama-love story that I would watch again and again.

Nicole’s Picks:

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This is one of those movies that I always watch when it’s on television because it’s super funny, has a great cast and is filmed in Hawaii. Need I say more?

Bridesmaids

I’ve seen this movie so many times, but it never gets old. Kristen Wiig is hilarious in this movie, and I literally just laugh throughout the entire thing.

Teen Witch

Who wouldn’t want to meet a fortune teller, find out you’re a reincarnated witch and then use your magical powers to turn into the most popular girl in school? This movie is everything.

Forrest Gump

The soundtrack alone is reason enough to add this movie to my desert island picks.

Meet the Robinsons

Yes, this is a movie for kids, but it’s so good! I usually enjoy most of the movies my kids want to watch, but I always try to convince my kids to watch this movie because I love it so much. Whenever I’m having a bad day or something doesn’t go as I planned, I remember the famous line from this movie: “Keep moving forward.”
