Happy Birthday, Glitter Guide
One thing I’m super proud of is how much we’re able to do with such a tiny, remote team. People are often taken aback when they find out that we’re a team of five and that we don’t share an office. We publish multiple posts a day, manage social media, partnerships, product design and much more. We also don’t work with a stressful and always-working mentality. That’s something that’s become very important to me. We get a lot of shit done while also making time for life! I’m really proud of that.
Now that I’ve been working online for 10 years (you can read more about that on my blog), I can really see what’s important, not only for longevity, but for resilience and happiness. We’ve created solid systems for accountability and project management. We’ve learned that we all need actual office hours. That we need time for side projects and hobbies. That our creative energy needs to be nurtured. That we need time with our family above all else. However, I’m not going to sugarcoat this: sometimes that means we don’t get back to as many people, don’t get as many deals, aren’t always thriving in some areas of work. That is OK. As long as we manage it well enough to stay afloat through ebbs and flows, we can keep going. We can keep reinventing.
What’s Next?
I’ve been through so many changes in the past eight years with Glitter Guide. I’m now married with two small children. I’m closing in on being 40 years old and I’ve done a lot of soul-searching. While the essence of Glitter Guide is still very much the same as it was when we started, I’m ready for GG to evolve and reflect my current values and interests. With that means a slight shift in our content. Also, a fresh look and vibe for the brand. We’ve been slowly working on this for the past two years, but not at the level we really want.
Our business manager, Samantha, has designed a brand new website for us (ya, she’s a wizard woman), which is going to be way more functional and straightforward. We’ve started a new branding design with our friends at JaneMade, which we’re thrilled about. We’re refining our content. While we’re still about supporting women and being a bright light in your day, we want to expand on that with more in-depth conversations, more meaningful stories, but also more quirky posts that our team gets excited about. We will look at it all through the lens of creative energy and how we can help YOU make your creative energy shine.
Thank you for reading Glitter Guide and being part of this shining community. We couldn’t do it without your support. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
