5 Random Acts Of Kindness That Won’t Cost A Thing

Did you know that February 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Day? While it’s important to be kind every day, it’s nice to have an official holiday to remind you to display your kindness outwardly to others. Don’t worry, we’ve come up with five random acts of kindness that have nothing to do with spending your money, and will make you and someone else very happy.

Donate Your Old Stuff

I usually purge my closet twice a year, and my beauty stash every couple of months. Frankly, I’ve just never liked clutter. However, I never toss anything in the garbage. I’ll usually let my sister and my friends have first dibs on the clothes and beauty items before I donate them.

Also, don’t be so quick to trash old towels, blankets and bedding. Instead, you should donate them to your local animal shelters.

Offer to Babysit

I recently moved away from my family, but when I lived close to them, I’d surprise my sister with an offer to watch the kids while she and her husband enjoyed an actual night out. Surely, this made a lot of people happy all around: my sister and her husband could connect one on one while I spent some much-needed time with my niece and nephew.

If a family member or friend has a child, offer to play babysitter for free so they can get some much-needed alone time.

Make Lunch for a Coworker

It’s time to pay your work wife back in what she really wants, a nice homemade lunch. Do you ever wonder how often a certain coworker actually sits at her desk for lunch and takes calls while munching on a sad granola bar? Tell them that tomorrow lunch will be on you, and make them your best dish.

Put Your Phone Away

This act of kindness isn’t exactly the easiest for most of us. Think about how many times you pick up your phone during dinner, or how you half-listen to your friend at lunch while scrolling through Instagram. Instead, be kind by giving people your full attention and actually listen. You’ll be surprised how good being present in the moment feels.

Be Kind to Yourself

How can you make others happy? By spreading your own happiness around. You work hard, so why not treat yourself today and be kind to yourself. Say only positive things to your reflection, and allow yourself that hour of wine and TV to unwind. Do something that makes you feel good, and others will notice.
