Eco-Friendly Home Tours To Inspire You This Earth Day

What makes a home “eco-friendly“? A lot of things! You don’t have to have some crazy fancy “smart” home in order for it to be eco-friendly. It’s all about making smart choices. Here are a few simple ways you can increase sustainability in your home:

  • Install solar panels.
  • Opt for big windows and lots of natural light instead of electricity when you can.
  • Shop vintage and thrift stores for secondhand furniture and home décor.
  • Use organic materials for your bedding and textiles.
  • Grow houseplants—they are not only pretty, but they are good for the environment!
  • Start composting.
  • Buy reusable home goods rather than disposable.

Easy enough, right? If you need some inspiration from homes that make eco-friendly look effortless and beautiful, read on!

Kamille Magette’s home is full of plants and organic materials like bamboo and rattan. We love the effortlessly bohemian vibe she has created.

Andy Barlow does vintage style very, very well. His eclectic blend of mid-century modern and vintage is a really stylish result that’s also incredibly sustainable.

Dee Tang’s Australian home is what sustainable dreams are made of. Who needs electricity during the day when you have this jaw-dropping natural light?

When you live in Oahu like Lindsay Wilkins does, you naturally gravitate to natural, organic vibes. Lindsay does an incredible job of incorporating quality, natural textiles into her home and taking full advantage of the resources and the beauty around her.

Damien and Jimmy were one of our favorite home tours of 2019, and it’s easy to see why. Their home is inspired by their travels and features a lot of beautiful natural elements and materials. They’re both professional vintage hunters, so of course their home is packed with secondhand and beautiful handmade goodness.

Trine, the artist behind one of our favorite brands Eloeil, lives in a one-floor bungalow-style home in a small village in Israel. In addition to unlimited natural light, her homestead also extends into fields and lemon trees, where she grows a small garden and raises chickens. It’s sustainable in every sense of the word.

Annabel Joy describes her interior design style as “organic eclectic modern.” Organic because she likes bright neutral spaces accented with earth tones, natural materials and textures, and of course, plants, and it’s eclectic because of her passion for incorporating vintage pieces collected from around the globe, especially rugs and textiles.

Meredith Wilkinson is a pro thrifter. I mean, a $7 peacock chaise from Goodwill? She has the magic touch for finding the perfect secondhand items and designing her space around them.
