Our Business Manager’s Dramatic Small Closet Makeover

Are you ready for something truly horrifying? I’m going to show you the “before” photos of my closet. I am one of those people who decided that quarantine is a good excuse to tackle some projects that desperately needed to get done, and my closet was up near the top of the list. I actually tackled my pantry and fridge first, but only because I knew my closet was going to be a much bigger project. We have a very small closet in our bedroom that my husband and I share.

Are you mortified? I’m mortified. I knew my closet was in need of some serious purging and reorganization, and I’m so happy to share the final result with you thanks to many incredible products I picked up at The Container Store!

Ta-da! Isn’t that just the most aesthetically pleasing before and after? My husband and I both played some serious keep n’ toss before reorganizing, because as you could see in the before pics, the closet was literally bursting at the seams.

One of the things that made the biggest difference? Uniform hangers! Holy cow was that an instant aesthetic fix for the previously disheveled look. I’ve kept my clothes rainbow-coordinated since I was in high school, and now it’s just a force of habit, but adding in the element of uniform hangers made the biggest difference. I opted for the Blush premium non-slip velvet hangers while my husband went for the taupe.

I have had the same laundry basket since I first moved out more than 15 years ago, so I finally upgraded to one that I didn’t use to carry back and forth to the shared dorm laundry room. This hyacinth hamper is perfect for our small closet and freed up extra space for an additional set of drawers for my husband and a few storage bins for my collection of hats and accessories.

We also utilized purse storage bins and stackable shoe racks to make the most of the shelf space. Before the makeover, we had everything just kind of shoved on the shelf without rhyme or reason, but there was actually a lot more space up there than I realized. All it took was a little organization and a few different sizes of bins to maximize the space. And of course, I had to find a way to organize my mask stash. This umbra shelf rack is perfect for keeping them all in one spot.

I hope you found my small closet makeover as satisfying as I did 😅. If there’s something positive that can come out of quarantine, it’s all the new organized spaces in our homes!

The Container Store is having a Mini Closet Sale running from 10/12 – 11/8, so if your closet is in desperate need of a makeover like mine, make sure to head to their site before it’s over!
