A Simple Apple Crisp Recipe For Fall

This easy apple crisp recipe was one of the first things I learned to make and is great for less-experienced bakers. It’s simple and easy, but by the taste, you would never know! It’s that time of year again for pumpkin and apple flavors, and sometimes making an apple pie can seem like a daunting task when you have guests arriving and so much to do! This Simple Apple Crisp recipe is easy to make and delicious way to incorporate apples into your fall menu.

There is just something about fall that feels like home, and each year, I like to welcome the season by grabbing a basket of freshly picked apples and whipping up this simple apple crisp. I love how easy the recipe is and it’s perfect for bringing little ones in to help you along! There is no doubt you will impress your guests with the warmth and sweet flavor of this dessert. Plus, you’re sure to surprise them by not going for the traditional apple pie. This recipe is even better than apple pie and once you top this warm apple crisp with a heaping (this is very important) scoop of vanilla ice cream, they will be sure to ask for the recipe!

After cooking down, the apples are tender and bittersweet. The warm and crunchy topping brings a touch of sweetness and that warm fall feeling! This recipe has been adapted over the years by members of my family. I have since added my touch to it and I hope that you enjoy it enough to add yours as well! Having family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, and have been tweaked along the way is something to cherish.

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup flour (white, whole wheat, gluten-free, whatever you like!)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F
  2. Grease a 11 1/2×8 inch baking dish or an 8×8 inch baking dish. Set aside.
  3. Peel, core and slice apples in a uniform size. I generally get about 12 slices per apple.
  4. Place apples in an even layer in the baking dish. Pour the water into the dish.
  5. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg) until combined.
  6. Add the butter and vanilla to the dry ingredients mixture and work them together until crumbles form.
  7. Evenly sprinkle the topping over the apple.
  8. Bake at 375 F for 40-45 minutes.
  9. Serve with vanilla ice cream!
