If you’re lucky enough to get some time to yourself this time of year, be sure to enjoy it and maximize it. The cold weather has inspired my inner hermit to reveal itself, and one of my favorite things to do this time of year is curl up with a good book. I know…super basic of me, but it soothes me! And I know that a lot of you out there read so that you can be instantly transported, at least your mind anyway.
This month, it’s all about mixing things up, so anything goes, as long as you love the book that you’re devouring.
- Nomad: Designing a Home for Escape and Adventure by Emma Reddington: Chances are high that I won’t be dwindling down my excessive makeup collection to fit into a camper, but this beautiful book definitely made me think about the possibilities. As someone who gets anxious just having to leave the house, I’m captivated with the idea of a nomadic lifestyle, and this book helped paint a realistic picture. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a nomad, or are just curious about the lifestyle trend then this is a good read. Even if you have no interest, I’m sure you’ll be singing a different tune by the time you hit the back cover.
- Mostly Dead Things by Kristen Arnett: This story starts off on a very serious note, and it’s a very entertaining and engulfing experience from there. After the death of her father, Jessa-Lynn is left to be what seems to be the only sane person left in her immediate family. Thus, it starts a journey to actually discovering these weirdos and realizing how much they have in common.
- Believe: A Pop-Up Book of Possibilities by Robert Sabuda: I’ve definitely learned to appreciate art over the years, and as childish as a pop-up book sounds, you really need to see the beauty behind the mini works of art for yourself in person. It was especially wonderful to stare at this during a friendly gathering. It makes a good gift for you or someone else.
- Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid: I absolutely enjoyed how this novel tackled really difficult issues that we face on a daily basis. This is Reid’s debut novel, and no emotional expense was spared in this thriller that also proves a simple moment can change the lives of many people.
- Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski: The Nagoski sisters explain the rising burnout epidemic in women, and how to end the horrible cycle. A lot of science was poured into this book that really had me thinking twice about certain things. The stress cycle is real, and this essential read will sure give you a new perspective on the current state of burnout.
- Would Like To Meet by Rachel Winters: A romantic comedy that you can easily take to awkward holiday dinners with you?! Yes, please! I promise you won’t regret reading the entertaining story about a cynic falling in love. It’s decked out in enough awkward moments to make you feel comfortable about your own dysfunctional friends.
- The Other’s Gold: A Novel by Elizabeth Ames: I can never get enough stories on female friendships. This novel follows four friends making their way through an endless line of mistakes during their college years. So many of these situations felt all too familiar that I immediately requested my college friends to also read along.
- Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors: A Novel by Sonali Dev: Get ready to sink your teeth into your new favorite dramedy series. The Indian-American Raje family is proud of their genius daughter, Dr. Trisha Raje. However, Trisha is known as the misunderstood black sheep of her family. And of course, she lets this stand in her way when it comes to finding true love, but things quickly change she begins to open up to an up-and-coming chef who’s easy on the eyes.
