Don’t worry, this isn’t a post telling you how bad you need to KonMari your life. In fact, no need to throw anything out at all if you really don’t want to. However, getting organized is life-changing.
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is run into my closet. I need it to be nice and neat. Otherwise, I start my day off feelings razzled because I couldn’t ‘find anything.’ Don’t feel the need to toss the pieces you love. Instead, get organized and you might discover you still have some space to play with.
Pick It Up
The first thing you should do is pick everything up off the floor and anything ‘loose.’ Either lay everything out on a table in your bedroom or toss them onto the bed. Pick through everything and fold or organize based on categories. I usually pull the hamper right up to the area so I can toss in anything for laundry day.
Declutter Your Closet
Trust me, you will run into items you completely forgot about. If you haven’t hunted for certain items within the last six months, then toss it aside to donate later on. Make room for the items you absolutely love and can’t live without.
Decide Your Method
This is the time to focus on your preferences. Maybe you like all of your cozy sweaters in one pile, or prefer to organize by color schemes. How do you want to see your clothes, and how will you be able to quickly access what you need for those really difficult outfit-deciding moments?
Make Improvements
I like to take pride in my closet space. I take the time to vacuum the floors every week, dust shelves, and so on. I also line my bags up decoratively. I like to make it look appealing. Sure, I barely spend 10 minutes a day in there, but I happily get ready for my days knowing my closet is clean and mindful.
Style Your Space
Add personal elements to your closet that you love. Change the lighting, or hang your accessories up in a gorgeous display. Adding these personal elements will ensure that your closet space is a favorite place for you.
