5 Areas Of Your Life That Could Benefit From A Little Spring Cleaning

Now is about the time you’re seeing a ton of “spring cleaning” hacks and tips popping up around the internet. Don’t get me wrong, nobody loves decluttering and a good deep clean like I do. But this spring, let’s look beyond the basic household spring cleaning and give some TLC to other areas of our life that could benefit from it as well.

Spring clean your career

Make a list of all the projects you currently have on your plate. Then note all the projects you’d like to say goodbye to, and for each one, ask yourself what would you gain from getting rid of it? Would you have more time? More peace of mind? The opportunity to take on a different project you are more excited about?

It’s also the perfect time to reevaluate your current position. Detach from work for a minute to really tune in to your most inner self. Sleep in, take a walk, meditate or spend time with family and spend some time there, within your heart. Decide if you are happy, content, restless or unhappy and then see what you need to do to make a change.

You can also use this season to clean out your workspace and declutter any unnecessary papers or odds and ends.

Spring clean your systems

Take some time to evaluate your planner or calendar system, which can also include any other systems you use for work. Sometimes we have a tendency to stick with something just because it’s convenient, even if it’s not necessarily the best fit. Look at your organizational systems. Are they easy and enjoyable to use? Are they helping you accomplish what you want to accomplish? This is also a great time for you to update your website, resume, social media profiles and get to inbox zero.

Spring clean your wellness

Spring is a perfect time to try a new fitness routine. Set a health goal such as joining a 10K run or experiment with new classes like burlesque or outdoor yoga. As well as keeping you in shape and giving you a real sense of achievement, the endorphins boost will help keep stress at bay, setting you up for a happy and healthy spring.

Spring clean your sleep

Just a guess, but you probably need more sleep because most people do these days. If you aren’t catching an appropriate amount of Zzzs each night, give your bedtime routine a little refresh. Buy some new spring pajamas and quality blackout curtains. Set a new sleep schedule: try going to sleep an hour earlier and using a white noise machine or sleep headphones. If you’re over 30, you’ll definitely want to make these changes to your nighttime routine.

Spring clean your mindset

If you caught my post on my year in therapy, you know that I’ve been working really hard on rewiring and reframing my mindset. Your mindset frames how you see the world, how you see yourself, how you view others and how you interpret your life. Pay attention to your self-talk and consider making changes, if necessary. This is the “can-do” talk that may have a positive effect if you open yourself up to it. It might be worth a try when you consider steps for changing your mindset. Like I mention in my post on therapy, it’s not instantaneous, it takes continual work and practice for it to become natural. But spring is a great time to really do some inner work and see what your mindset is and where you can improve.
