With the launch of the new site and the new focus on creativity, I thought it would be fun to poll the team and learn more about their style influences. Who has inspired them to hone the style they have today? Where did their fashion sense come from? Read on to see what everyone had to say!
“I have yet to meet an outfit that I didn’t love on Olivia Palermo. She can pull off any single look and make it her own. You may remember her as a frenemy of Whitney on “The City,” but Olivia has always been the apple of my eye because of her impeccable style. She goes classy, then subtle, then full glam without batting an eye. Any time I think of great style, I instinctively think of Olivia Palermo.”

“One of style icons is my grandma ‘Gigi,’ which is short for Gretchen. She refused to be called anything related to a grandma, so Gigi it was! I think my earliest obsession with fashion began because of her. She used to make her own jewelry using the wax-casting method and always had an amazing collection whether it was costume jewelry, vintage finds or her own custom-made pieces. She is one of my style icons because she taught me that fashion is an expression of yourself, and something that you never have to give up no matter your age. Her style has inspired me to try out bold, unexpected pieces while still keeping a classic style—and to never be afraid to get a little glam!”

“I’ve always had a deep connection to the character Angela Chase in the wonderful, but short-lived television show “My So-Called Life.” When I was a young teenager, I literally felt like she and I were the same person. I died my hair dark red and cut it short to feel even more connected to my television soul-sister. Now that I’m in my late 30s, I no longer relate to a lot of the teenage angst that Angela has, but I still share her deep and introspective personality. Her style made a impression on me in those early years and have stayed ingrained with me. I’m still that girl wearing overalls, sneakers and loads of plaid.”

“It seems that no matter how much I try to add color into my wardrobe, I always find myself gravitating toward all of the little black dresses in my closet. I have one for pretty much every occasion, and I love that I can dress them up or down depending on where I am going or what I am doing. Needless to say, my years of working in publishing in New York City where the little black dress is the uniform of choice for so many women, only made me love my LBDs even more. And I can’t think of anyone who rocked the LBD better than the oh-so stylish and chic Audrey Hepburn. Her impeccable style proves that even simple basic pieces of clothing can be stylish when paired with the right shoes and accessories, and how sometimes in fashion, less really is more.”

“It’s hard for me to pinpoint my exact style icon because my style has changed so much over the years. I think a lot of that has come with growing up and feeling comfortable in my own skin. Honestly, my true style, no matter how hard I tried to fight it for the sake of conformity, is that of a 12-year-old skater kid 😂. But in terms of valuing and cultivating a fashion sense, mine has to be my mom. She has so many good looks from the ’80s and ’90s, I just know we would have been friends. And no one can rock a permed pixie cut quite like my mama. I have fond memories of her coming home from work when I was a kid with no hair out of place, the perfect shade of lipstick and always pantyhose because she’s #fancy. Even now, 30 years later, I don’t think the woman owns a pair of yoga pants. She’s not always dressed to the nines, but even when she’s ‘casual,’ she’s still thoughtfully put together and classy. She’s the only person who can compliment my outfit and it makes my heart flutter, because her opinion means so much to me!”
