I Got Dressed For A Week & This Is What I Learned

I know what you’re thinking. You got dressed for the week? Doesn’t everyone? Yes, technically, but being that I work from home, I don’t have a lot of pressure to properly get dressed. Also, if you’re coming to this post to get inspired by my daily outfit ideas then you will be sadly disappointed. This is an actual look at my attempt to get out of my pajamas and into real clothes. Let’s see how I did.

Monday

With it being the first day of the week and the first day knowing I was putting myself up for a challenge, I did get dressed cute. However, I actually procrastinated this until about 1 p.m. and then still wanted to feel really comfortable so I opted for my most roomy jumpsuit. I slipped on Freda Salvador oxfords because they instantly make me feel cool and like I’ve put a lot of effort into my outfit.

Tuesday

Once again it’s late on Tuesday and I remember I need to get dressed. It’s becoming apparent that for me to get dressed before noon is way too much effort. Especially when I know I’ll hardly see anyone. Still, I begrudgingly do it anyway. Once again, I go for something that is insanely comfortable and requires very little thought: a jumpsuit. Since it’s pretty simple, I slide on my favorite Beatrice Valenzuela sandals that are the perfect shade of pink.

Wednesday

Well, it’s hump day, and I totally forgot about getting dressed until right before I have to go get my kids. I can’t be bothered to try for a cute outfit, so I put on my usual go-to when doing the school run: jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t wash my hair and wear my everyday grungy Birkenstocks. I consider this day a fail, but also it can’t be a true fail because honestly this is what I really dress like most days of the work week. It’s still technically getting out of pajamas.

Thursday

Today, I shower and clean up. It feels good. I remind myself that the earlier I can take a shower and get dressed, the better I feel for the rest of the day. This is a reminder I ignore most days in my efforts to remain busy and on top of my other tasks, but I wish I didn’t. Often my excuse for not getting dressed is that I’m going to go work out and don’t see the point of getting ready before that. Then hours pass by without me eating or even moving from my desk and I realize it’s too late to go to the gym. I decided to give myself some time to go thrifting this day so I wanted to be comfy. I wore my go-to again: a T-shirt and jeans, but throw on some fancy sandals to make it look like I’m trying!

Friday

It’s Friday and I’m feeling good. I don’t work much on Fridays because I’ve always had my kids home with me. On this Friday, I have my son with me and I’m recording a few video clips for Stories and running errands. My hair is still looking decent from the day before (always a win!) so no real effort has to be done on that front. I actually feel like getting dressed. Nothing crazy though. I went for the same Madewell jeans from the day before with a white Dôen top and Lisa Says Gah mules. These shoes may seem fancy, but they are comfier than 70 percent of the shoes I own. So it’s a bonus that they actually elevate my simple outfit.

Takeaways

I knew this was going to be challenging for me, so I’m not surprised that I barely got by. For being someone who’s really into fashion, I’m extremely lazy when it comes to dressing myself. I do think making more effort and trying to get dressed, even if that means a T-shirt and jeans, does make a difference in how I feel that day. I would like to try harder and make more effort. However, it’s not going to become such a priority for me that I end up not getting as much work done. I’d rather get my booty to the gym than to ever get properly dressed each day. So, we will see how I do in the future. I’m surprised by how much white I wear. I guess I’m a creature of habit!

Also, jumpsuits are the lazy girl’s answer to style.
